Waltrip Brothers tee it up for 6th annual Charity Championship
The Sixth Annual Waltrip Brothers’ Charity Championship is in the books.
The two-day fundraising event – held in Franklin, Tennessee – featured the likes of country music legend Travis Tritt, NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer and, of course, Michael and Darrell Waltrip.
Bryson and Karen Byrnes – son and wife of late FS1 broadcaster Steve Byrnes – were also in attendance, as the event benefitted the Byrnes Memorial Fund, as well as Feed the Children and Motor Racing Outreach (MRO).

Travis Tritt gives memorable performance
[From The Fuze Magazine]
The Showroom at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino recently hosted the one and only Travis Tritt. Taking the stage before a full house, he did not disappoint. Performing both old and new music, the fans sang along. Travis shared several personal stories about his early days on the country music scene and joked about him being known as an outlaw just because he didn’t fit the cookie cutter image.
While the entire show was fantastic, my most favorite part was when he sat and sang his beautiful song “Tell Me I was Dreaming.” As I looked around, so many fans were signing and even a few tears were shed. Now let’s not forget about his rocking country music that had everyone on their feet with his songs “T-R-O-U-B-L-E”, “Here’s A Quarter” and “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive”. He proved that after all these years, he still has it.
Travis also had a surprise for everyone. He invited his daughter Tyler Reese out on the stage with him to sing. They performed a beautiful duet “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough” and you could just feel the close bond between the two. The apple definitely didn’t fall far from the tree. She is a talented young lady with such a beautiful voice.
Here’s hoping Travis Tritt makes it back to our area soon. What an amazing evening!

SUGAR HILL — When Travis Tritt first came onto the Bowl at Sugar Hill stage Saturday night, it wasn’t to sing, at least not yet, but to indulge in a bite of ice cream.
The city of Sugar Hill was aiming to beat the Guinness World Record for largest ice cream party and the Grammy-winning singer lent a hand by counting down to the first bite.
After opening acts Pilot, Presley Sullivan and the Gasoline Brothers entertained the crowd, volunteers passed out around 1,500 servings of ice cream to concertgoers. The ice cream — offered in chocolate mousse, Madagascar vanilla and strawberries and cream — was provided by Daddy O’Brien’s Irish Ice Cream Pub.
The crisp autumn weather didn’t deter the crowd of concertgoers — or Tritt, who enjoyed the cherry amaretto — from eating the cold treat. After a short break, Tritt came back onto stage and opened with,”Put Some Drive in Your Country,” followed by “High Time for Gettin’ Down.” The Grammy Award-winning musician and Marietta native then gave the audience a warm welcome.
“It is absolutely fantastic, wonderful in every way to be back in my home state of Georgia tonight,” Tritt said and was met with a loud cheer from the crowd. “This is where it all got started for me, and this is the place that I still live simply because there is no place that feels like home the way Georgia does.”
Patsy Klein and her niece Shelby Nalley are both longtime fans of Tritt and traveled from Statham to attend Saturday’s concert. The two had front row seats alongside Klein’s daughter Donna Lee and her husband, Rob Roy.
Rob Roy, who is also a longtime fan of Tritt’s, said he came to hear the song “Where Corn Don’t Grow,” and the Sugar Hill resident got his wish early in the show when Tritt performed the upbeat tune.
The free concert was part of the Sugar Rush Festival that began with a 5K race earlier that morning followed by family-friendly activities including inflatables, carnival rides and street performers. There were also a variety of food trucks, a car show and a juried art show inside City Hall.

The City of Sugar Hill is bringing back the Sugar Rush Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, featuring a 5K race, art contest, free concert and many more festival activities.
The event will kick off with the Sugar Rush 5K, which is open to all ages and a qualifying race for the Peachtree Road race. The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Temple Hill Drive across from the amphitheater. Pre-registration is $20 and registration on the day of the event is $25.
“Come on out and run, jog, walk, roll, or whatever you do to get involved in your downtown Sugar Hill,” Mayor Steve Edwards said in a statement.
Following the 5K, festivities will begin at 11 a.m. Visitors at the festival can expect art and food vendors, a car show, a Preservation Society Oral Stories and Artifacts Display, a juried art show and many more activities taking place in front of City Hall. The art show awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m.
Children can get their faces painted, play on inflatables and carnival rides and see the monster mural, and street performers will be entertaining audiences throughout the day.
After the activities end at 4 p.m., attendees can head over to the Bowl, which opens for seating at 5 p.m., for a free concert.
At 5:30 p.m., opening acts will begin with local performers Pilot, Presley Sullivan and the Gasoline Brothers taking the stage before this year’s main act, two-time Grammy winner Travis Tritt.
The nationally recognized country star and Grand Ole Opry member has several platinum albums and hit singles, including “Can I Trust You With My Heart” and “Here’s a Quarter.” Tritt also operates his own music publishing company called Post Oak.
“It’s so exciting to have the best acts playing in the best music venue,” Councilman Curtis Northrup said in a statement. “A lot of this talent is from right here in Sugar Hill! I’m really looking forward to it.”
During the concert, the city of Sugar Hill will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest ice cream party. A free portion of ice cream will be handed out to concertgoers at 8 p.m., and Tritt will take the stage to lead a countdown to the first bite. According to Megan Carnell, Sugar Hill’s Events and Marketing Coordinator, the city needs 1,011 participants to break the record.
General admission to the concert is free and no ticket is required. Tickets for the Tannery Row Party Deck, featuring private access to food vendors and a bartender on the upper level of the parking deck overlooking the Bowl, are still available for $25.
